That's kind of my point. With so many variables it's possible for the unit to hear "noises" and take out timing. I've had my J&S for about a year and I'm glad I have it.
The "stock setting" is the setting at which the unit is set at when you receive it which is about 11 o'clock.

I don't know about venturing at prolonged 10psi of boost w/out a J&S on a B18C. Remember, you'll be at the threshold of the stock internals maximum potential.

Sorry, had to get that out of my system. But seriously, aren't you worried about:
Block damage ?
Bearings and other damage from the oversized harmonic balancer ?
On the plus size block damage is a perfect excuse to get that B20z block
Im probably on the conservative side of things, but I'd rather have a safe, detonation free 6 psi setup than running the ragged edge on a 8-10 setup.

We shall see... I ran this boost for 3 days/50 miles/1 autocross on just the stock injectors with really high fuel pressures and it worked well. With all the fuel and cooling mods and measures I'm doing/have done, I'm not overly concerned, although I will definitely be reading my spark plugs often!
The larger crank pulley shouldn't do anything to the engine. The only complaints from running this pulley I've heard are that alternators die early.
rjaffey is loving life at 9psi. Granted, he has a J&S.
What the hell? I'm doing it. Conservative fuel and ignition tuning will perhaps cost 5-10hp, but it should also make things relatively safe.

Call me what you will ("moron" comes to mind
), but by this time next year, I'll either have put 7000 10psi miles w/o a J&S or I will be shopping for a new short block.

I have nearly 20K miles on a boost-gauge registering 10psi (3.8" 8 psi blower pulley)... and my motor still purrs like a kitten.
By the way, I DO NOT have a J&S.
Greg: you go boy !!! Proper tuning is the BEST way... for those who cannot get this level of tuning... the J&S is good protection.

A J&S safeguard could pay for itself in just one serious incident -- sort of like radar detectors can pay for themselves.
